JCA @ the Vicariate of Espiritu Santo
The Children’s Core Group from the parishes of Espiritu Santo, San Jose Manugid, Immaculate Conception, San Rafael, San Roque, Santa Monica, and San Jose Manggawa Parish, of the Vicariate of Espiritu Santo were finally gathered for the Junior Catechists’ Association (JCA) General Orientation. The event was held at the Immaculate Conception Parish, Tayuman, Manila, last November 11, 2023. A total of 182 participants from Grades 4 to 10 joined the celebration and reflected on the theme “Kasama Ka sa Pagmamahal ni Kristo”. The event is headed by the CFAM catechists and Ms. Mary Antonette Angeles, the Vicariate Coordinator.
In the Holy Mass presided by Fr. Paul Vincent Perlado, OFM Cap, he emphasized the role of young catechists in spreading the Good News through concrete acts of love as followers of Christ.
Fr. Paul deepened in his homily the theme of the JCA Orientation Program; “Isinilang ang Panginoon kasi minamahal Niya tayo. Nabuhay Siya kasama natin.
The importance of catechesis was explained to the participants by Mr. Manuel Garcia, a catechist of CFAM. He reminded the group that they first received the call to be a catechist' when they were baptized in the Church. As young catechists, they are called to be proclaimers of God’s love.
Mr. Art Perez, another CFAM catechist, explained the levels of JCA Membership and the different JCA Activities: Mag-Aral, Mag-Bonding, Maglingkod, and Magdasal. He highlighted that JCA catechists are those “Piniling Magmahal”.
As part of the activity, the participants presented various dance moves and prayer movements to the song “Iba’t-ibang Pagdarasal” as an output for their creative prayer.
Ms. Annette, concluded the event with the words “Kailangan magdasal tayo, ilapit natin ang sarili natin sa Diyos para bigyan tayo ni Jesus ng lakas” to stressed the importance of prayer specially in the life of a catechist.
The event was made possible with the support of Fr. Rey- Anthony Yatco, the Parish Priest of Immaculate Conception Parish.  He gave a challenge to the young catechists before he blessed them saying; “Dahil kayo’y naturuan magturo din sa kapwa ninyo bata… Tayo ay maging buhay na Simbahan”.
It was a beautiful and meaningful gathering that marks the beginning of the JCA formation program, another historical event of CFAM in the catechetical apostolate in the Archdiocese of Manila.
